TikTok Brand Collaborations: How to Land Your First Deal

Brand collaborations are for many creators the first real income channel — before Creator Fund, affiliate, or own products. Even accounts with 5,000 followers can land first deals if they have the right niche and good engagement rates.

When Do You Become Interesting to Brands?

Follower count matters less than your engagement rate. A rule of thumb: accounts with 3–5% engagement rate are more attractive to brands than accounts with 1% at 500k followers. Micro-influencers (5k–50k) often have better conversion rates for specific products because their community is tighter and more trusting.

Minimum requirements for first deals: clear niche, consistent posting frequency, professional profile, engagement rate >2%.

Types of Brand Collaborations

Gifting: Brand sends products for free, often implicitly expecting a post. No money involved. Good for building references at the start — not suitable as a long-term business model.

Sponsored posts: Paid collaboration for one or more posts. Price depends on reach, engagement, and niche. Typical benchmarks: $50–100 per 10k followers, but highly variable.

UGC (User Generated Content): You create content the brand uses on their own channels. No own reach needed — ideal for growing creators. Prices: $100–500 per video.

Ambassador programs: Long-term partnership with monthly compensation and exclusive discount code. Usually requires 50k+ followers.

Proactively Approaching Brands

Don't wait to be discovered. Research brands in your niche that already work with creators (recognizable by #ad or #sponsored in similar accounts). Then:

  1. Find the right contact (usually Marketing Manager or Influencer Relations on LinkedIn)
  2. Write a short, professional email: who you are, your numbers, why the brand fits the community, concrete proposal
  3. Attach a media kit (PDF with your stats, content examples, price list)

Setting Prices Correctly

Many creators undersell themselves. Rule: charge at least $10–15 CPM (cost per 1,000 views) for organic content. At 20k avg. views per video = $200–300 for a sponsored post. Add production effort and exclusivity.

Transparency and Disclosure

Disclosing paid collaborations is legally required in most countries. Use #ad and TikTok's built-in "Paid partnership" label. Non-disclosure risks fines and, above all, trust.
